Background of the Study
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading infectious diseases worldwide, with Nigeria ranking among the countries with the highest TB burden (World Health Organization [WHO], 2024). Effective prevention strategies rely on public awareness, early diagnosis, and adherence to treatment regimens. The Federal Ministry of Health (2024) has launched several initiatives to improve TB prevention through public health campaigns, community screenings, and educational programs.
Kano State, being one of the most densely populated states in Nigeria, faces significant challenges in TB control. High transmission rates, coupled with limited healthcare accessibility, pose a risk to public health (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2024). Community awareness programs play a crucial role in TB prevention by educating residents about disease transmission, symptoms, and the importance of seeking medical care. However, despite these efforts, misconceptions about TB persist, leading to stigmatization and delays in treatment (Ibrahim & Bello, 2024).
This study assesses the level of community awareness on TB prevention in Kano State, examining the effectiveness of current awareness campaigns and identifying gaps in knowledge and behavior.
Statement of the Problem
Although TB prevention programs exist in Kano State, community awareness levels remain low, contributing to continued disease transmission and delayed treatment-seeking behavior (Bello & Yusuf, 2023). Myths and misconceptions surrounding TB, such as its association with witchcraft or punishment, hinder public acceptance of medical interventions (Ogunbanjo & Salami, 2024).
Furthermore, the effectiveness of TB awareness campaigns is limited by factors such as language barriers, low literacy rates, and inadequate dissemination of information in rural areas. This study seeks to evaluate the extent of community awareness on TB prevention and to propose strategies for improving public knowledge and engagement.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on assessing TB awareness levels among residents of Kano State, evaluating the effectiveness of existing prevention campaigns. Limitations may include reluctance of respondents to discuss TB due to stigma and difficulty in accessing remote communities.
